Course InformationEach student must satisfactorily complete 32 hours of classroom theory, 7 hours behind the wheel, and 7 hours of observation to graduate and receive a certificate. It should take 11 to 14 weeks to complete the entire course.

Classroom Theory:
The class times are typically as follows: Monday – Thursday (4 weeks).  Class is held 2 hours for 16 days. Call the school for additional information.

Supplies:
The student is required to bring black pen, paper and folder to class.

Attendance:
Each student is required to attend class during the specific times. Each absence must be made up. A student cannot miss more than 5 days of class without being dropped from the class.  A full hour of absence is charged to the student when they are 10 or more minutes late to class. Student must average 70% on all tests to pass the classroom phase.

Learner’s Permit:
After the student has been in theory class for 4 days, they will be given a certificate (DE-964) upon passing the learner’s permit examination. The student will need to take the following documents with you when you go to the DPS office:

Dept. of Public Safety: 5100 W Elam Rd, Killeen, TX 76542, Phone (254) 616-1800.

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Behind the Wheel:

Each student will arrange driving appointments for driving and observation after the classroom theory part of the class ends and they have received their permit. As a convenience to our customers, scheduling student drive times will all be done by the student or parents on the internet at www.schedule2drive.com. This service provides access for scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling drive times.  After the student receives his/her permit number from the Department of Public Safety, the student will register on the site and will pay a one-time access fee of $10.00 to Schedule2Drive. Once you have registered a Schedule2Drive account, bring your permit to our office during our office hours so we can verify your permit. Once we have verified the permit, the student’s account will be activated and then the student will be able to schedule drive times directly from Schedule2Drive. Please do not call the driving school to schedule a driving appt. It will take approximately 7 to 10 weeks from once class ends.

No Show:
The student agrees to pay the standard $20.00 NO SHOW FEE in the event that the student cancels, changes the driving appointment, doesn’t show for his/her scheduled driving appointment (unless the student notifies the school within 48 hours of his/her scheduled driving time), or is wearing non-compliant footwear (i.e. – flip flops, sandals, open toe/heal shoes). This also includes showing up without a permit or with an expired permit. It is the student’s responsibility to check his/her driving schedule on their Schedule2Drive account.

Effective September 2, 2013 (HB 3483):
Teens will need to complete the current 14 hours of driving instruction from the driving school and an additional 30 hours from an individual who is at least 21 years of age, licensed with one year of driving experience, occupying the seat next to the driver, and who is monitored by a parent or guardian.  10 hours of the total 30 must be done at nighttime.  Parent logs will be turned in at the end of the permit time and before the final DE-964 is issued.  The new DE-964 will include places for two required signatures.  One is for the licensed instructor responsible for the 14 hours of behind-the-wheel observation.  The other is for the person responsible for ensuring the student completes the additional 30 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

Certificate of Completion:

Each student that satisfactorily completes the course will be given two certificates; one is taken to the DPS when they turn 16 and have waited 6 months from the time they received their permit to get their driver’s license and the other one given to the student’s insurance company for a 10% discount.

Fee for Duplicate of DE- 964 certificate: $20
